“Buying Viagra Online” gets over 20,000 searches on Google a month and Viagra has been used by millions in US since its approval by the FDA in March of 2000 alone. While many claims this to be a “wonder drug” or a “magic blue pill”. This hasn’t been the case for all takers of the Drug. Some of the information you’re going to read will definitely shock you and hopefully open your eyes to some of the side effects of Viagra, and in the end make you a more informed consumer able to decide if Viagra is the answer you’re looking for as an erectile dysfunction treatment. (All the stats and information was taken from reliable sources and can be checked for validity through the Internet or library)

The Scary:

-In an analysis of 1,473 major adverse events recorded in these reports about Viagra to the FDA, 522 people died, most of them from cardiovascular causes. According to the study’s senior author, Dr. Kaul, the majority of deaths were associated with standard Viagra dosages (70 percent of the deaths were associated with the 50 mg dose). The deaths were due to cardiovascular causes and appeared to be clustered around the time of dosing (two thirds of deaths in which the time from ingestion to death was reported, occurred within 4-5 hours of taking Viagra). The majority of deaths occurred in patients who were less than 65 years of age, and who had no reported cardiac risk factors.

– Sildenafil (Viagra) and tachyphylaxis(a medical term for the process in which tissue responsiveness to a drug diminishes). A study by El-Galley and colleagues[1] that was published in 2001 reported that sildenafil produced tachyphylaxis, since 20% of the patients who were followed for 2 years needed an increase in intake amounts and 17% stopped treatment because of lack of efficacy. The results of the El-Galley study were largely discounted upon poor follow-up; 50% of the men on sildenafil did not respond to a telephone interview to follow-up 2 years later.

-Pharmaceutical companies warn men not to take Viagra without a prescription from a doctor because of the many risks, especially for men taking nitroglycerin, which is a heart drug that lowers high blood pressure.

-The British Medical Journal[2] reports several cases of men taking Viagra who maintained painful erections for up to 24 hours after ejaculation (called priapism). This totally unnatural occurrence is so dangerous that it can actually damage the tiny valves in the penis veins, leading to permanent impotence.

-Men who take Viagra may be shooting blanks according to new research conducted at Queen’s University in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Viagra, it seems, causes sperm cells to premature release digestive enzymes that normally break down the wall of the egg. As a result, sperm from men who take Viagra can no longer fertilize eggs as effectively.

-CBS News analyzed four years of Viagra adverse events reported to the FDA. There were eye problems in more than 800 patients with more than 140 cases of partial or total blindness. These reports alone aren’t proof of a direct link, but, experts look to them for patterns. The FDA asked manufacturers of Cialis, Levitra, and Viagra to revise product labeling after a very small number of patients taking the PDE5 inhibitors reported sudden hearing loss, sometimes accompanied by ringing in the ears and dizziness.

-Seven patients, aged between 50 and 69 years, had typical features of NAION within 36 hours after ingestion of Viagra for erectile dysfunction. Seven similar cases have been previously reported. These cases were published. Viagra has been studied extensively in clinical trials, with over 3,700 people having been evaluated. [3] In these studies, side effects are always documented.

Here’s a list of rarer side effects that effect less than 2% of takers. (it should be noted that it is difficult to tell whether these side effects are caused by Viagra or something else):
