Surface cracks along a fault line two days after deadly earthquakes

Drone footage shows a fracture in the surface in Turkey’s Kahramanmaras just two days after deadly earthquakes hit the area. See aerial footage of the damage in this video.

A magnitude 5.5 earthquake struck waters off northern California on Sunday United States Geological Survey (USGS).

USGS said the quake was reported around 11:45 a.m. on Sunday. It was discovered 63 miles west of Petrolia and 74 miles southwest of Eureka.

The epicenter of the earthquake was in the Pacific Ocean. Officials say the earthquake’s depth was about 1.3 miles.

ShakeMap from USGS captured the epicenter of the earthquake at 6.8 on the Modified Mercalli Intensity Scale, but that intensity was not felt on land – the USGS reported that the intensity in Petrolia was a 3.7.

The Modified Mercalli Intensity Scale, a scale that measures the intensity of earthquakes, considers anything between 6 and 7 to be “strong.”

5.5 MAGNITUDE EARTHQUAKE SHAKES NORTHERN CALIFORNIA, FELT IN SACRAMENTO 160 MILES AWAY

Earthquakes with an intensity of 6 or more are noticed by almost everyone and are almost guaranteed to cause some degree of damage. Since the earthquake was far from land, the intensity was not as high on the coast.
