At least 27 young people, mostly children, have been injured after a pedestrian bridge collapsed in the Finnish city of Espoo.
The minors fell a few meters into the street, after the destruction of the bridge they were crossing. It was built for a short period of time near a construction site where work was being done.
The witness stated that he saw the grain being thrown and that the injured persons were school students.
“I was on the fifth floor and saw what happened. There were 27 children. Many people stayed here on the street, after the event that happened”, said Jaakko Markkula – witness.
Immediately after the announcement, the rescue teams arrived at the scene, and made it possible to send the injured to the hospital.
The children have been sent to Helsinki hospitals, where they are receiving the necessary treatment. According to local media, some of the injured are in a more serious state of health.
At the moment the bridge collapsed, there were at least 39 people crossing. The reasons for the collapse of the bridge are still unknown, an accident which is being investigated by the authorities.
