Ahead of Victoria Day long weekend and as patio season gets underway, OpenTable has unveiled its annual list of Canada’s “100 Most Popular Outdoor Dining Restaurants,” with 10 restaurants in Vancouver making the top.
Canadians seem to be anticipating outdoor dining with enthusiasm, as OpenTable data shows that users began making reservations as early as Jan. 1 in cities like Toronto, Vancouver and Calgary.
The OpenTable 2023 outdoor dining list is compiled from an analysis of more than one million restaurant reviews featuring restaurants across Canada.
Ontario dominated the list with 59 establishments, followed by British Columbia (21), Quebec (9), Alberta (7), and Atlantic Canada (4).
The list includes a selection of what OpenTable calls the most stunning outdoor dining destinations, such as Allen’s in Toronto, Bonterra Trattoria in Calgary, Provence Marinaside in Vancouver, and more that offer great food and beautiful views.
“April food in Canada was up 4 percent (year-over-year), likely due to warmer temperatures and Canadians starting early to eat outside,” OpenTable country director Matt Davis said in a press release released Thursday. “Find a new patio season favorite by exploring our list of the 100 most popular outdoor dining restaurants, or by using our outdoor seating filter.”
When it comes to Canada’s favorite cuisines, Italian food takes the top spot according to 2022 OpenTable data.

Methodology:
1- The “100 Most Popular Outdoor Dining Restaurants in Canada for 2023” was generated from over one million reviews collected from verified OpenTable diners between March 1, 2022 and February 28, 2023. All restaurants with a minimum “overall” score and the number of qualifying assessments is included for consideration. The overall score is made up of unique data points, such as the restaurant’s overall rating, user clod, total ratings, and regional overall rating. Eligible restaurants were then scored and sorted by percentage of reviews, with “Outdoor Dining” selected as a special feature.
2- OpenTable has looked at seated outdoor dining reservations in Canada for 2023 (January 1 – April 30).
3- OpenTable has looked at seated outdoor dining reservations in Canada for 2022 (January 1 – December 31). The reflected kitchens had a minimum of 15,000 diners.
