Going to the dentist is far from a humorous experience, but somehow the best sitcoms have managed to find hilarity in episodes about the dentist. Here are ten of the best shows where a regular character visits, or in one case claims to visit, a dentist or orthodontist.
The king of queens
In an episode cleverly titled “Two Thirty,” Doug (played by Kevin James) undergoes a root canal, but what hurts him even more is discovering that Carrie (played by) once had a huge crush on the dentist.
Seinfeld
The title character in the episode “The Yada Yada” finds adult magazines in the waiting room of orthodontist Tim Watley, who in a later episode invites Elaine (played by Julie Louis Dreyfus) to the Super Bowl.
Married with children
“Tooth or Consequences” is the title as Al (played by Ed O’Neill) experiences an excruciating toothache, forcing him to see Marcie’s dentist.
The flints
To avoid a dental bill in “Nuttin’ But The Tooth”, Fred decides to pull Barney’s aching tooth himself. After failing to complete the task and levitating Barney over Bedrock, Fred takes him to the vet instead of a dentist.
Fresh Prince
Guest star William Shatner appears in this episode titled “Eye Tooth” where funny gas is inhaled at the dentist.
Full house
Middle daughter Stephanie (played by Jodi Sweetin) gets her first hole, but she’s afraid to go to the dentist.
Puree
Although a surgeon himself, Charles Emerson Winchester (played by David Ogden Stiers) is afraid of a dentist to relieve a nagging pain in his tooth.
Brady bunch
Mike (played by Robert Reed) and Carol (played by Florence Henderson) are surprised that eldest daughter Marcia (played by Maureen McCormick) enjoys going to the dentist, until they learn she’s fallen in love with him in an episode called “Love and the older man.”
The office
Dwight Schrute (played by Raian Wilson) claims he has to leave the Dunder Mifflin office for a dentist appointment when in reality he is covering up a crime committed by Angela. Comedy ensues in “TheCoup” when Michael (played by Steve Carrel) tries to catch Dwight in the lie.
Malcolm in the middle
Hal’s (played by Bryan Cranston) friendship is tested when he needs dental work, but Trey charges him $2,000 for the surgery. The episode is aptly titled “Hal’s Dentist.”
