President Biden gave a succinct response to reporters who asked him repeatedly about his prospects for 2024, telling them ahead of his departure from Ireland that he had “already made that trade-off” about whether he would be re-electable next year and that he would would announce “relatively soon.”

Biden’s comments to the press came from Ireland West Airport Knock just before he boarded Air Force One for Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.

“Do you know if your calculus has changed in the past few days when you’re going to make an announcement about your plans for 2024,” one reporter asked.

“No, no, no, no. I’ve already made that calculation. We’ll announce it relatively soon,” Biden responded. “But the journey here has reinforced my sense of optimism about what can be done.”

“So you’ve made up your mind,” the reporter asked.

Biden responded with some agitation: “I told you my plan is to walk again.”

Biden’s comments echo those of the White House in the past, as well as first lady Jill Biden, who said in February that her husband is “almost” ready to announce his re-election campaign.

“He says he’s not done yet,” the first lady told the AP during a visit to Nairobi. “He didn’t finish what he started. And that’s what’s important.”

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre has made similar comments, telling MSNBC in February that Biden “intends to run again” for president in 2024.

Asked by host Jonathan Capehart on “The Sunday Show” if an official announcement will be made soon on a Biden-Harris 2024 ticket, Jean-Pierre timidly replied that she can’t talk about politics because she’s restricted by the HATCH law , but “what I can say is to repeat what the president has said many times is that he intends to run. And I’ll leave it at that.”

Biden — who has yet to formally announce his 2024 reelection campaign — has already picked up two long-running Democratic primary challengers, including Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. and Marianne Williamson.

Kennedy, the son of the late Senator, Attorney General and presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy and the nephew of the late President John F. Kennedy, will announce his candidacy for the White House on April 19 at a campaign launch event in Boston, Massachusetts. .

Williamson, the best-selling author and spiritual advisor, launched her second consecutive campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination last month. Since the announcement, Williamson has been campaigning in New Hampshire, South Carolina and other primary state primaries.
