The magistrate was returning from a shooting tournament when he was approached by five armed criminals. Another of the attackers was seriously injured.
A San Isidro Chamber judge and his guard killed two 18-year-olds in a shootout and seriously injured one of 16 who tried to assault them as they left a polygon in the Quilmes district of Buenos Aires.
The event was recorded on Saturday around 6:30 p.m. on Cevallos street between Castelli and Paso, in the aforementioned town in the south of the Buenos Aires suburbs, when at least five armed criminals intercepted a vehicle in which Judge Ernesto García Maañon was traveling along with his custody.
According to police sources told the Télam news agency, García Maañon – who works as a judge in the Chamber of Appeals and Guarantees of the San Isidro Judicial Department – had left a tournament played in the Federal Shooting Center of Quilmes and was heading towards the Buenos Aires highway. Aires-La Plata when he was approached by the group of assailants, all of them armed.
Under these circumstances, the magistrate and his guard took out their firearms and began to shoot at the suspects.
As a result of the confrontation, one of the assailants -identified as Nicolás Martínez- aged 18, died at the scene while two others -a young man also aged 18 and a teenager aged 16- were seriously injured and were referred to the Iriarte Hospital, where They are hospitalized in serious condition.
This morning the death of one of the injured was confirmed, identified as Emmanuel Jorge Cartagena, also 18 years old.
Investigators await the autopsy on the bodies of the two dead youths to establish the number of shots they received and in what areas of the body.
“Both the dead offender and the injured have extensive criminal records,” explained an investigator, who added that the judge and his guard are unharmed and that no belongings were taken from them.
The Scientific Police carried out the corresponding tests during the early morning to determine how many shots were fired in total, while the remaining criminals who fled after the attack are being intensively searched.
The investigation was carried out by the prosecutor Martín Conde, of the Functional Instruction Unit (UFI) 3 of Quilmes, and for the participation of the minor, the prosecutor María Julia Botasso, of the juvenile jurisdiction 2 of the same Judicial Department, intervened.
A judicial spokesman indicated that he did not take temper towards García Maañon or his guardian, considering that they acted in legitimate defense.
