When the Honduran National Team was in the intensive care unit in Arizona, Alberth Elis arrived with an oxygen tank to keep the national team alive in the Gold Cup and equalize 1-1 against Qatar at 90+6.

The Catracho team had a slight improvement in possession of the ball, they pressed in three quarters of the field, but they lack the punch and thus it is difficult to compete. Jerry Bengtson is no longer there to be part of this project, Edwin Solani Solano could not send a cross and only Elis’s claw brought danger to the Qatari goal.

Once again the defensive failures took their toll on us. After seven minutes we were already down on the scoreboard. Marcelo Santos and Luis Vega did not know what to do to close and Tameem Alabdulla appeared with a header, after a cross sent from the right by Mostafa Mashal to beat the departure of goalkeeper Edrick Menjívar who took the place of Luis ‘Buba’ López.

Diego Vázquez understood that Marcelo Santos plays better at center back. He took it from the right side and put Maylor Núñez who put his leg in, he was offensive, although he lacked a good cross. In one of those projections he sent a filtered ball where Elis could not reach in the clearest that the national team had in the first half.

In the end, he lost Luis Vega due to a muscular problem that he had been dragging and it is certain that he will not be on Sunday against Haiti in the closing of the groups in Charlotte.

The second half had little or almost nothing for the Qatari. Just a dangerous arrival at Menjívar’s goal and, in that action, they asked for a handball from Bengtson that when he went out to head, he did not see the ball and it bounced off his hand. The referee Armando Villarreal did not review the VAR.

The offensive projections of the catrachos continued with Maylor who was with Jorge Álvarez but the touch was missing. Devron García was about to score with a header in one of those crosses but the goalkeeper sent it to the corner kick and the H pressed.

The entry of José Mario Pinto changed his face, he saw a more offensive team that made Qatar melt. Elis insisted, Román Rubilio Castillo pressed and Bengtson missed one under the frame.

When the game was about to end, Pinto sent a cross into the area, Rubilio headed it down and Alberth Elis appeared who pounced on the goalkeeper and put the tie that sends us to play the ticket against Haiti, but he will have to win the commitment.
