Due to the wildfires ravaging the Greek island of Rhodes, travel companies Apollo and Tui have canceled several planned trips. 2,000 people had to be evacuated from the beaches by boat.

The company has not canceled flights to the island, only trips for those who were due to go to the Lardos, Pefkos and Kiotari areas on Sunday. Rivera estimates that this applies to about 200 people, the newspaper writes.
Rhodes is one of the most popular Greek holiday islands. It is 1,400 km2 in size and has about 125,000 permanent residents.
The travel organization Tui, like Apollo, has also canceled trips to Rhodes.
– We have not canceled flights to Rhodes, but we are traveling to hotels affected by the forest fires, says communications manager Anne Mørk-Løwengreen from Tui to VG.
These are travelers who were on their way to the hotels that have since been evacuated.

More than 30,000 people have been evacuated because of the threat of a forest fire that is escalating on Rhodes. The Greek newspaper Ekathimerini writes that 2,000 people had to be evacuated by sea from two beaches.
Three Coast Guard vessels, an Army light boat, Special Forces RIBER and 30 private sailboats participated in the evacuation.
According to the newspaper, tour operator Tui evacuated 100 Norwegian guests from Kiotari, while Apollo evacuated more than 200 guests from eight hotels.
The fire service has classified the entire east coast of mainland Greece, as well as the islands of Evvia and Rhodes, in category 5, the highest on a fire hazard scale.
