Arizona authorities arrest a murder suspect

Arizona police have arrested a murder suspect they believe is linked to a decades-old 1996 cold case.

Whiteriver resident Romeo Massey Jr., 45, was arrested Wednesday by officers from the Pinetop-Lakeside Police Department.

Police believe Massey is connected to the murder of Jody Hemphill, a man found stabbed to death on November 6, 1996 at the Mountain Edge Tapes & CD store.

Hemphill had been an employee of the music store. Massey was about 18 years old at the time of the murder.

The Pinetop-Lakeside Police Department said the cold case had been reviewed “numerous times” over the years, but new evidence helped detectives continue their investigation.

“In a recent investigation, new evidence was obtained and analyzed, which led to the arrest of Whiteriver resident Romeo Massey Jr., 45,” police said. said in a statement.
