Arizona governor requests $512 million reimbursement from Biden for southern border safety ‘failure’

In a letter to President Biden on Friday, Democratic Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs expressed her frustration and concern in regards to the administration’s response to the southern border disaster and, within the course of, demanded a hefty reimbursement. 

“Right now, I despatched a letter to President Biden calling on him to reassign Nationwide Guard members to help in its reopening, in addition to reimburse the $512,529,333 federal border inaction has price us,” Hobbs posted on X.

Within the letter, Hobbs instructed Biden that the reimbursements are for the federal authorities’s “failure to safe the Arizona border,” emphasizing that transferring ahead, the state Arizona will recurrently search reimbursement from the federal authorities.

On Monday, the Lukeville Port of Entry was closed on the federal authorities’s order, forcing all American and Mexican residents to drive a number of hours to the subsequent closest port of entry in Nogales, Arizona.

Hobbs added that border safety and preserving their communities protected was her prime precedence.

“So long as I’m Governor, I’ll do all the things I can to maintain Arizonans protected — even when the federal authorities fails to behave,” Hobbs mentioned.
