GOP Asian-American lawmakers say a new analysis revealing Asian voters are shifting to the Republican Party is a sign they reject “leftist priorities” and socialist ideals of the Democratic Party.

The New York Times on Monday published a deep dive into New York City’s neighborhoods with the most potential Asian-American voters. The study looked at turnout in the 2022 gubernatorial election between former Representative Lee Zeldin and incumbent Governor Kathy Hochul.

The Times’ research found that while neighborhoods “remained generally blue,” they moved 23 points toward Republican compared to 2018. And according to the analysis, it was the “biggest electoral shift in Asian neighborhoods in the period from 2006 until 2022.

Although Democrat Hochul came out victorious, the survey revealed that nearly the “entire city” shifted to the right, with Asian voters shifting the most red.

Leading Asian GOP legislators in Congress say the results show voters are tired of “big government” democratic policies that are detrimental to living the “American dream.”

“Many Asian Americans, especially first-generation immigrants like me, have witnessed the destruction of communism and socialism firsthand,” Representative Michelle Steel, R-Calif., told Fox News Digital Monday.

“They understand the dangers of progressive policies from major governments and out-of-control spending that have led to the destruction of the nations’ economies,” she continued. “More than a third of my district is Asian-American. They consistently tell me they just want the government out of the way. Leftist priorities of high taxes and over-regulation work the exact opposite of that goal.”

“Keeping the American dream alive requires safe, prosperous communities, but far-left policies are killing opportunities for hard-working Americans to succeed, endangering public safety and undermining the American values ​​we hold dear,” Rep. Young Kim, R-Calif., to Fox News Digital Monday.

Kim, who became the first Korean-American woman in Congress in 2018, emigrated from South Korea. She previously called the GOP the party that urges individuals to live the “American dream.”

According to Pew Research Center, Asian Americans are the fastest growing group in the US, currently making up nearly 7% of the population. They were targeted by both Democratic and Republican leaders as well as potential voters in the controversial midterm elections.

The New York Times survey also noted that Asian residents make up 14% of New York City’s population, the “fastest growing group of voters in the city”.

The Republican Party invested heavily in reaching out to the Asian American community ahead of the November midterm elections, seeing it as an opportunity to permanently bring minorities into the GOP fold as voters grow frustrated with the administration’s policies -Biden.

A spokesman for the Democratic National Committee (DNC) previously told Fox News Digital that the DNC has also invested heavily in Asian-American communities, which the organization considers “central” in efforts to gain more seats in Congress.
