In the last week of March 2023, the African Development Bank (www.AfDB.org) hosted a team from the Asian Development Bank to discuss operational policy.
The visiting team met with various teams from the bank, including the Policy and Strategy Department, Business Transformation and Business Process Reengineering, Corporate Performance and Accountability, Management Operations and Programming and Budget. They also visited the gender, women and civil society and risk departments.
The Asian Development Bank will launch a new operating model towards the end of the second quarter of 2023, which will have a number of features similar to the model currently in place at the African Development Bank.
Caroline Kende-Robb, Senior Director of the African Development Bank’s Policy and Operations Strategy Department, said: “These exchanges with our ADB sister institution enabled us to reflect on our mandate, vision and different operating models. As regional MDBs, it is invaluable to work closely together as we evolve to respond to a rapidly changing development environment, including addressing global public goods and expanding our financial capacity. By working together, we all benefit.”
Bobur Alimov, Head of Transformation Office (Asian Development Bank) said: “ADB’s new business model will enhance our capacity as a climate bank for Asia and the Pacific and strengthen our role as a catalyst for the private sector. Our conversations with AfDB colleagues were focused and hands-on, yielding valuable insights about coordination across countries, sectors and operational support, and between sovereign and non-sovereign operations. The lessons learned from AfDB’s recent transformation experience will help us ensure a smooth transition and improved collaboration with our members.”
