Ilias Siakantaris told Greek TV that a few hours before the boat sank, the coastguard had “used a rope to stabilize themselves, to approach, to see if they needed help”. But he stressed: “There was no mooring rope,” suggesting no attempt was made to tow the boat or tie it to it for any length of time.
