SEOUL – An estimated 300,000 people will gather in the heart of South Korea’s capital Seoul on Saturday as fans around the world commemorate the 10-year debut of K-pop boy band juggernaut BTS.
BTS is on temporary hiatus as a group, with two of its seven members currently serving mandatory military service.
But that hasn’t stopped this week from a host of celebratory events for the band’s loyal fanbase, known as Army.
During the BTS 10th Anniversary Festa at Seoul’s Han River Park on Saturday, thousands of fans wandered under bright sunshine and clear skies among various exhibits, including a BTS history wall, stage costumes and commemorative sculptures, many in BTS’ signature purple color.
As the band’s songs played in the background, fans danced under shady trees or bonded with their favorite band members.
“I think through this event we can experience how we build our relationship with BTS and the military,” said Ms. Audrey Lintner, a 28-year-old master’s student from Sri Lanka who attended the event.
