Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy appeared in court to face charges of financing the 2007 presidential campaign by prominent figures in Libya.

He was heard in a hearing by the financial investigators of the Central Office for the fight against corruption and financial and tax violations, to understand more about the accusations leveled against him.

According to French media, the former president allegedly gave his consent to an operation aimed at withdrawing businessman Ziad Takieddine from his testimony.

The Franco-Lebanese businessman was a key witness, where in November 2016, during an interview, he claimed to have evidence of financing the presidential campaign from Libya and that he had given it, between 2006 and 2007.

“The truth is finally coming out”, this was the statement that Sarkozy made, after the businessman’s withdrawal from the claims.

On the other hand, in the house of the former French leader, the judicial police are continuing intensive searches to find evidence.
