Global Courant
The European Parliament approves a bill to counter artificial intelligence threats.
The world is experiencing an artificial intelligence (AI) revolution that is changing the way we live and work.
But the rapid growth of AI is also a global concern. Is our job under pressure? Can it create disinformation? Will it reinforce bias and disinformation?
All of us – and our governments – grapple with such questions.
The European Parliament has taken the first step to address these concerns. It has approved a draft of what will be called the AI Act.
The legislation would ban systems deemed to pose “unacceptable” risks to human life.
However, that could put European governments on a collision course with US tech giants investing billions of dollars in AI.
And there are fears that regulation could stifle creativity.
