Idaho state prosecutors filed documents seeking the death penalty against Bryan Kohberger, accused of murdering four University of Idaho students in an off-campus rental on Nov. 13, 2022.

Prosecutor William W. Thompson, Jr. said in the filing that the crime was “particularly heinous, horrific or cruel and exhibited exceptional depravity.”

He goes on to say that the defendant displayed a “utter disregard for human life”, adding that through his behavior he has “displayed a propensity for murder which is likely to be a continuing threat to society”.

“In view of all evidence currently known to the state, the state is compelled to file this notice of intent to seek the death penalty,” Thompson wrote.
