The political party Cambio filed an amparo action before a Contentious Administrative Court with which it seeks to annul an ordinary national assembly of the Prosperidad Ciudadana party that proclaimed Carlos Pineda as a presidential candidate, confirmed the candidate himself at a rally in Peten.
If this legal action takes place, the candidacy of Pineda, who leads the intention to vote in various surveys and polls, could be invalidated.
Although the Cambio party still does not confirm that, in effect, they have presented said legal action, at a rally in Poptún, Petén, Pineda lashed out against that political group and Manuel Baldizón, the main leader, who sought to proclaim himself as a candidate for deputy.
“They want to block us, they gave us a shelter to get off the game in a room,” exclaimed Pineda, who described Baldizón as a “scorpion that I got into my shirt and that I can’t remove.”
“They —Baldizón—, even though they are from Petén, but they are scourges of the country. I am ashamed that they have their businesses here, they stole all the municipal sites in Petén to make shopping centers, ”he said with obvious annoyance.
In addition, he denounced that there would already be an agreement between various parties for the appeal to advance, if it reached the Constitutional Court.
Apparently, Cambio points out defects in the Second Ordinary National Assembly, which would have been endorsed by the Department of Political Organizations of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE).
In said assembly, Prosperidad Ciudadana would not have presented the economic reports, the lists of signatures of the delegates, and would have failed to comply with the representation of minorities.
Pineda originally intended to run as the Cambio party’s presidential candidate; however, he resigned from that organization after denouncing interference by Manuel Baldizón.
Later he was appointed by Citizen Prosperity, where he displaced the former Minister of Economy Antonio Malouf from the candidacy.
