Upon entry of the Tax Justice Law initiative to the National Congress, the Legislative Board appointed a multi-party commission to rule on the draft decree promoted by the Executive Branch.

The multiparty commission will be chaired by the deputy of Libertad y Refoundación (Libre), Hugo Noé Pino.

Likewise, it was integrated by the deputies Silvia Ayala, Ligia Ramos, Ramón Barrios, Samuel García, Jorge Zelaya, Karen Martínez and Mario Segura.

During this Wednesday’s session, Luis Redondo announced that the multi-party commission will begin its work starting tomorrow, where a calendar will be established for the socialization of the controversial regulations.

The initiative will be agreed upon with the different political forces within Congress in order to achieve the necessary votes for its approval in the face of the rejection of the majority of deputies, in addition to the organized and unorganized economic sectors of the country.

The controversial law must achieve the necessary agreements to be approved in a differentiated vote, because within the regulations the reform of several Constitutional articles is contemplated, which require at least 86 votes in favor.

The Government of Honduras sent this Wednesday to Parliament the draft of the controversial Tax Justice Law that seeks to improve the distribution of the tax burden, which is rejected by the private sector, reported an official source.

The initiative was sent by the Minister of the Presidency of Honduras, Rodolfo Pastor, to the first secretary of Parliament, Carlos Zelaya, after being approved by the Council of Ministers, headed by the country’s president, Xiomara Castro.

The proposal is rejected by several sectors of Honduras, including private companies, considering it “malicious” and that it will deepen “further” the difficult situation of the poor in the country, which the Government rejects.

The director of the Honduran Council for Private Enterprise (Cohep), the main employer leadership, Armando Urtecho, told reporters on Wednesday that the Tax Justice Law would eliminate bank secrecy.
