In a huge operation that included investigative work on three continents, the National Gendarmerie managed to dismantle a dangerous drug-criminal organization that recruited people to transport drugs through deceptive jobs. The actions of this transnational drug trafficking network were exposed after a series of arrests made in different countries.

The case dates back to last August, when an Argentine citizen was arrested in Thailand while trying to enter the Asian country with 12 kilos of cocaine hidden in towels. Then, in March of this year, the Airport Security Police received a report about two new victims detained in Ethiopia, who were carrying 10 kilos and 800 grams of the same drug.

Given these alarming events, the Federal Criminal and Correctional Court No. 2 of Morón ordered the agents of the Gendarmerie Anti-drug Operations Squad to carry out an exhaustive investigation, which lasted from November 2022. Thanks to the data collected and Through wiretapping, the agents were able to confirm the existence of a drug trafficking network that operated internationally, recruiting deceived people through false job offers.

The victims were captured in Argentine territory and then sent by bus to Brazil, from where they boarded planes to destinations such as India, Thailand, Egypt, Malaysia, Dubai and Ethiopia. The organization preyed on the innocence and neediness of these people, turning them into unwitting drug “mules.”

In an important advance in the investigation, agents of the National Gendarmerie, with the support of the Airport Security Police, carried out raids on two homes in the Buenos Aires town of Ramos Mejía and in an apartment in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires. As a result of these interventions, an Argentine citizen and a woman of Paraguayan nationality were arrested, who were directly linked to the transnational drug-criminal organization.

The operation allowed the seizure of a large sum of cash, which in total amounts to 13,630 US dollars, 541,150 Argentine pesos, 270 euros and 1,600 Uruguayan pesos. In addition, 16 cell phones, six passports, seven computers, two tablets, seven flash drives, two chips, a memory card and various documents of interest to the cause were confiscated.

A shipment of almost one and a half tons of marijuana was intercepted and kidnapped on the first Saturday of May by the Argentine Naval Prefecture, in an operation deployed in the city of Puerto Rico, in Misiones.

As officially reported, personnel from the force who were at a border surveillance post detected that a boat was trying to cross across the Paraguayan coast and that it was carrying suspicious packages.

Upon reaching Argentine soil, the crew members of the boat unloaded the packages and began the return trip. It was there that the Prefecture acted, with the participation of the border coast guard GC-198 Toba.

The operation made it possible to find 43 packages with 1,987 loaves of marijuana nearby, in an area known as Puerto Mil Hectareas, with a total weight of 1,440 kilograms and a value of more than 67 million pesos.
