Samsung Electronics is aligned with sustainability, which is nothing more than betting with will and action in favor of defending the health of the planet, for ours and for future generations.

Galaxy S23 is an opportune starting point for us to learn about the efforts of Samsung Electronics in the design and execution of plans with patent environmental impact, with a focus on sustainable products and services, waste reduction and energy efficiency.

“Thus, the S23 Ultra has 12 internal and external components with recycled materials, including aluminum and glass, in addition to packaging made from 100% recycled paper. Other brand devices, such as the Galaxy Fold4 and Galaxy Flip4 foldables, and the Galaxy Buds2 Pro also have eco-friendly materials in part of their physical configurations,” said Ricardo González, Marketing Manager for Samsung Central America and the Caribbean.

In 2021, Samsung’s mobile division announced its Galaxy for the Planet program, including its commitment to use recycled materials in its products, eliminate plastics in mobile device packaging, and achieve zero waste by the year 2025.

Last year it launched the Galaxy S22 which, in addition to being the bearer of formidable technological advances, was the first smartphone that incorporated six parts made from reused material, from discarded fishing nets, extracted from the oceans and processed by allied manufacturers. Recently, with the new Galaxy S23 line, Samsung intensified this goal and significantly increased the number of these types of components.

“The value of impactful technology is measured, not only by what it enables people today, but also by how it contributes to a better tomorrow (…) We are on a mission to redefine peak performance by combining powerful and lasting innovations with sustainability” said TM Roh, president and director of Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics.

In the area of home displays Samsung Electronics has also applied pro-environmental targets and is optimizing them. For example, in the Neo QLED, MICRO LED and Samsung OLED lines, it comes with the SolarCell remote control that works without batteries, helping to reduce waste. The brand has replaced 20% of the support parts used for this commando with plastic. Also, the power board contains parts made from recycled aluminum and copper cans, the use of the SolarCell will be expanded to more Samsung devices, including our new 2022 TVs, helping to eliminate more than 200 million batteries of the dumps.

Samsung’s outdoor smart signage, the 2023 line, will arrive with special emphasis on reducing energy consumption; the QHC, QMC and QBC products are approximately 40% thinner than the previous models, which implies savings of 20% in the number of containers for their transport in comparison with the previous model. For their part, these equipments are energy savers in that they have a lighting sensor that, based on the light from the environment, decreases the brightness and thus consumes less energy automatically. Adding to its eco-friendly profile is the fact that the resin on the back covers contains 10% post-consumer materials.

In the cases of smartphones, tablets, smartwatches, televisions and other products, 100% recycled paper is used. This Samsung Eco-Packaging concept will be optimized this year with better minimal printing (which implies a reduction in the use of ink in its production), the use of paper tape instead of plastic for packaging and, in addition, the sizes of the packages will be reduced to lower overall carbon emissions.
