A 31-year-old resident, who declined to reveal his full name, said he had never heard of Fang Bin, but does remember Li Wenliang, a doctor who tried to warn the world about the coronavirus and died after contracting it. Mr. Li was investigated for “spreading rumours”, although local authorities later apologized to him.
