The fifth batch (eighth flight) of 132 stranded Nigerian citizens evacuated by the federal government through the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in the ongoing internal conflict evacuation in Sudan arrived at Nnamdi today at 9:15 am Arzikiwe International Airport. They consisted of men, women and children, including babies. Of particular note among them is a 3-week-old baby.

They were flown from Port Sudan via Tarco Aviation and were received on behalf of the Federal Government at the Hajj Terminal of Abuja Airport by a team of senior officials led by NEMA Director of Special Duties Dr. Onimode Abdullahi Bandele. Also in attendance were the Head of the Consular and Migration Ministry of Foreign Affairs, representatives from the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, NCFRMI, NiDCOM, NAPTIP

After approval by the Nigerian Immigration Service, the returnees were provided with meals and tokens to help them travel to their various locations. Dangote Foundation, a philanthropic organization, distributed among the returned token worth N100,000 for redemption at the bank and worthiness kits for each of them. In addition, telecom giant MTN gifted each of them SIM cards with N25,000 airtime and 2 GB data.

Also today at the reception, the returnees sang the Nigerian national anthem as they expressed excitement at the concerns of the federal government and the successful air transport of them home to safety in dignity.
