Despite the high inflation, citizens in Germany do not want to give up their vacations even this summer.

The most favorite destination of Germans continues to be Spain.

High prices everywhere, but this does not scare the Germans from pouring money on holidays. Tourist operators do not note any significant increase in very profitable offers, on the contrary. “Inflation and the energy crisis have not led to a boom in cheap offers,” says Sven Schikarsky, director of Dertour’s travel sector. Even according to the data of the tourist concern, TUI, many Germans spend more on holidays.

Despite the prices, vacationers demand more quality. According to travel organizer Dertour, demand for hotels with higher star categories has increased in the winter season. 82% of Germans have searched for four- or five-star hotels from November 2022 to February 2023. This means 9% more than last summer 2022.

Vacation budget always under control

But despite the desire for quality, many vacationers are very careful about the money they plan to spend. according to Dertour’s assessment, 3/ of travelers decide to click for “all inclusive” offers. This marks an increase compared to the period three years ago. The most favorite destination of Germans remains Spain and in winter the Canary Islands.

The TUI concern has also announced an increase in the number of vacationers. Currently the average price for travel packages is 5% higher than last year, and 265% higher than in the summer of 2019. The head of TUI, Sebastian Ebel in the presentation of the figures of the quarter, hoped for a “development strong bookings”. With 8.3 million bookings, TUI’s figures are almost at the pre-pandemic level. This development indicates a high demand for holidays. /DW
