The reported event occurred in 2019. The player appeared to testify yesterday and was charged.
The Argentine national team player Gonzalo Montiel (26) was accused of a rape that would have occurred at a party at his home four years ago.
According to the young woman who denounced him, a 33-year-old woman, the event occurred on January 1, 2019 at the soccer player’s home. She had attended Montiel’s birthday there.
In a first testimonial statement in March of this year, the complainant stated that at that party they had given her some substance to consume that made her lose consciousness and that she had been raped. She could not identify specifically by whom because she said she did not know those present, only Montiel, who was the one who had invited her.
“During the hours between 3 and 11, at the address located on Martin Gil street at 300 of the town of Virrey del Pino, Partido de La Matanza, Gonzalo Montiel and two men still unidentified to date, sexually abused of CVB, by accessing her sexually vaginally, through violence”, the judicial file maintains when describing the facts for which Montiel was denounced.
This Thursday afternoon, the soccer player appeared spontaneously at the Functional Unit for Investigation and Specialized Trial No. 3 of La Matanza, in charge of the prosecutor Luis Alberto Brogna, where they took an investigative statement and rejected the accusations. Montiel was charged with sexual abuse with carnal access aggravated by the participation of two or more people.
“I had met C. a few months ago, and we had only one meeting, where we went to my apartment in the Capital, and we had consensual sexual relations,” begins Montiel’s statement, to which Clarín had access.
The young woman went alone to the player’s birthday party around 2.30 and there he introduced her to the girls who were in the house. In the place were his “close friends” of him and “other people from the neighborhood that he did not know,” said the soccer player.
Montiel continued his story by saying that at 6 o’clock he took his friend Matías to his house, together with Walter Enriques, because he had a nervous breakdown and suffered from asthma. “When I left him at home, the father who has a kiosk came out, and Matías broke the windows of the business, so with my friend we decided to stay for a while until he calmed down,” he says.
But when he returned between 7 and 8, it was already daylight, he found all those attending the party outside his house. “My mother and my friends began to tell me that C. was screaming angrily and saying that it was all my fault because I hadn’t taken care of her; I didn’t understand what she was referring to,” Montiel clarifies.
And he adds: “They told me that Alexis had taken her home, and that before they had been in my dad’s car that was parked inside the house.” But who was Alexis? Montiel declared that she did not know him.
However, the cause is labeled “Acosta Alexis s / sexual abuse with carnal access.” But so far, that person has not been identified, nor has the third man who would have participated in the rape.
“Acosta Alexis is who Montiel says is the abuser. But the victim doesn’t know him. What’s more: for us, he doesn’t exist,” Raquel Hermida, the complainant’s lawyer, told this newspaper.
The lawyer said that it was very difficult for the young woman to testify because after the rape she had to “work a lot in therapy” and that “she had a relapse in her depression.” “She did psychological work to clarify the lacunar amnesia,” she added, noting that she received threats from the soccer player’s family.
