Nineteen Republican lawmakers from the House and Senate sent a letter to President Biden on Thursday calling on the administration to stop sending U.S. aid to Ukraine, as tensions with Russia have only escalated with any additional aid the United States is providing. to steer.

“We are writing to express our concern about the US response to Ukraine. More than a year ago, Russia launched an invasion that has upended decades of peace in Europe. We are deeply concerned that the direction of US aid Ukraine’s war effort continues to escalate and lacks much-needed strategic clarity,” the letter reads.

Lawmakers went on to say “there is no end in sight and no clear strategy to bring this war to an end,” while also stating that current sanctions and aid strategies will “only prolong the conflict.”

“With every new aid package and every new weapon delivered to Ukraine, the risk of a direct conflict with Russia increases,” the letter continues. GOP lawmakers argue that the scale of U.S. aid to Ukraine “makes it increasingly difficult” to deny allegations of a possible proxy war between the U.S. and Russia, while also arguing that the government’s strategy is pushing Russia and China even further pushed together.

Lawmakers close the letter by saying there are other appropriate means available to support Ukraine, “but unrestricted arms supplies in support of an endless war is not one of them.”

A total of 19 Republican members of the House and Senate signed the letter, including Sens. Rand Paul, R-Ky., and JD Vance, R-Ohio, and Reps. Lauren Boebert, R-Colo., and Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., many of whom have spoken out against sending continued aid to Ukraine.

Most recently, Vance called for the withdrawal of US troops from Ukraine at a Heritage Foundation Leadership Summit on Thursday.

“Get America out of Ukraine! Get US troops out of Ukraine! It’s a disaster for this country!” said Vance.

The White House has maintained a pro-Ukrainian stance, with White House national security spokesman John Kirby saying at the White House press conference on Thursday that Biden and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, spoke of their “continued support to Ukraine in the fight against Russia”. aggression” at a meeting that same day.

The letter comes just one day after Ukraine received US-made Patriot surface-to-air guided missile systems, which Washington promised to ship in October. Ukrainian officials have previously said that the arrival of the Patriot systems would prove to be a big boost against Russia.
