On May 9, the award ceremony of the tenth edition of the Microsoft Office Specialist national competition was held, organized by ETC Iberoamerica with the endorsement of Microsoft and Certiport to Pearson Vue Business, where the performance of those students is recognized. who have tested their skills in the digital field.

Said competition took place on May 8, where evaluations were carried out in three categories: Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint in the Technical Institute for Training and Productivity, Intecap.

The award ceremony was held at the Westin Camino Real Hotel and Eduardo Valencia, CEO of ETC Iberaoamerica, Erick Sosa, country manager of Microsoft Guatemala and Craig Bushman, general manager of Certiport at Pearson Vue Business participated.

“There are more than 800,000 students around the world who have qualified for the world championship that will take place in Orlando, Florida at the end of June. Although three winners were chosen to represent Guatemala, everyone here is also a winner, because you represent the best of the best in Guatemala”, were the words of Graig Bushman.

Each of the guests not only congratulated the students present at the award ceremony, but also addressed the issue of how technological skills will be an important part of the students’ professional field.

Before mentioning the winners, recognition was given to various institutions that supported both the competition and the awards, such as Intecap for giving up their headquarters for the national competition and Prensa Libre for the coverage made over the years. .

The winners were divided into three groups, which consisted of the top ten places from the three branches evaluated. The first places in each category will not only get a cash prize, but will also represent Guatemala in the world competition that will take place in Orlando Florida from July 30 to August 2.

Brenda Nova, regional manager at ETC Iberoamerica, was also present at the award ceremony, and thanked both the educational institutions and the students who participated in the competition.

“We know that the journey has been long and difficult and with a lot of effort, and we, their institutions, their families and friends, but above all Guatemala, recognize that. Do not see this competition solely as a way to represent the country worldwide, they have also learned a lot and it has allowed them to grow both personally and professionally,” said Nova.

“I feel happy and glad to have won. I felt that I was going to have a good place because my performance was good, and thank God I was champion”, said Juan Pablo Cabrera after the award ceremony.

The student says that one of the difficulties he had throughout the competition process was transportation to his school, so he could not go every day.

“From my house I also made the effort to study and in the end, every effort has its reward.”

Similarly, Sheila Estefanía Morales, winner in the Microsoft Powerpoint area, said she felt excited and surprised to receive the recognition.

“It was quite practical that we carried out at school with the help of my teacher, and until the day of the competition I felt that I had done well, but I did not expect to get that far,” says Morales.

Finally, Carmina Solares Serrano, winner in the Excel area, thanked her teachers for their support and explained everything she experienced after being notified that she was going to participate in the national MOS competition.

“When a classmate and I were told that we were the best two in the grade, they gave us a kind of exam simulator. I prepared a lot and when we went to Intecap for the national competition, the nerves were always there, but I always gave my best,” said Serrano.
