Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, have been invited to the coronation of King Charles III, according to a statement from the couple.

They say they have been emailed about the coronation, on May 6, but have not confirmed if they plan to attend.

There has been speculation whether the US-based couple would be invited and attend the coronation of King Charles and Camilla, the Queen’s consort.

“I can confirm that the Duke has recently received email correspondence from His Majesty’s office regarding the coronation,” a spokesman for the couple said.

Westminster Abbey, where the coronation will take place, has a capacity for around 2,200 guests. Many public figures, politicians and international personalities, as well as family members and friends of the king, are expected to attend.

The focus on whether Prince Harry and Meghan will attend the coronation follows revelations about tensions with his family. This included an account of a row with his brother Prince William, who as the Prince of Wales is likely to have a role in the coronation ceremony.

In an earlier interview about his memoirs, Prince Harry declined to say whether he would attend his father’s coronation, saying: “The door is always open. The ball is in their court.”

If Prince Harry returns for the coronation, it’s not known what role he might play as he is no longer a royal.
