The prices of the different cuts of beef grew 3.4% in April compared to the previous month and 77.3% compared to March 2022, according to the monthly report of the Institute for the Promotion of Argentine Beef (IPCVA). ). The increases are much lower than inflation, which accumulated 108.8% in one year and climbed to 8.8% in the month, according to what was reported this Friday by the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INDEC):
For its part, fresh chicken rose 26.9% in the fourth month of the year and had an increase of 151.1% in twelve months.
Meanwhile, the price of pork breast showed increases of 4.7% in relation to the previous month and 82.5% against April last year.
The IPCVA survey was carried out in the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires (AMBA), Rosario and Córdoba. According to the report, the rise in beef prices was higher at points of sale in neighborhoods with a high socioeconomic level, where it reached 4.6%. In businesses with a medium socioeconomic level, it reached 3.2%, while in those with a low socioeconomic level, prices increased by 3.1%.
If analyzed by categories, in one month steer meat was the one that increased the most with 3.8%, steer grew 3.4%, heifer and veal 2.9%. On average, the price of the light category of retail consumption had an increase of 3.1% compared to the previous month.
Beef rose throughout the AMBA, with a great dispersion by zones, reaching 3.4% in the west of Greater Buenos Aires (GBA) +3.4%, from 1.7% in the south of the GBA, 4.6% in the Federal Capital and 3.5% in the north of the GBA.
For its part, in April a great difference was observed between the points of sale: prices increased by 2.1% in butcher shops and 6.5% in supermarkets, accumulating 72.6% and 89.2%. %, respectively.
Discriminating by cuts, the brisket was paid $429.29 more (17.9%) in supermarkets than in butcher shops, and the rump steak was $403.76 higher (17.1%). On the contrary, the price of the brisket was $411.23 i (33.1%) cheaper in supermarkets than in butcher shops, as well as the common picada that cost $226.56 less (18.7%).
In the most demanded cuts, such as those used in the preparation of Milanese, the price difference was around $14.6 (-0.6%) in the case of the buttock, being the cheapest price in supermarkets.
Pork breast was $86.61 cheaper in supermarkets (6.7%), and whole chicken was $190.74 cheaper per kilo in large stores (23.8%).
The biggest price increases during the month of April occurred in the loin, with 9.1%; the skirt with 4.5% and the common chopped with 4.1%). In contrast, the lowest were registered by the rump (with only 0.7%) and the common bait, which fell by 1.5%.
Rosario
The average retail prices of beef in the city of Rosario grew 2.1% compared to the previous month and 73.2% compared to April 2022.
Fresh chicken, meanwhile, rose 38.4% monthly and 161.9% year-on-year. For its part, the price of pork breast increased 3.9% in the month of April and 84.9% in relation to the values registered a year ago.
The price of half beef in this market had an increase of 3.3% compared to the previous month and 74.5% versus April 2022.
The biggest price increases in the fourth month of the year occurred in Ossobuco with 4.3%; special chopped with 4.3% and rump tail with 3.4%). While the minor ones were observed in the roast that remained the same; the matambre that only grew 0.3% and the common meat that rose 0.8%.
Córdoba
Cow meat had a rise of 1.7% in April compared to March in Córdoba and an annual increase of 77%.
Fresh chicken increased 33.2% in relation to the previous month and 154% versus April 2022. While pork breast rose 3.1% and 85.1%, respectively.
In that market, the price of half beef increased by 1% compared to the previous month and by 70.3% versus April 2022.
The cuts that increased the most in the month were roasts, with 3.8%; the osso buco, with 3.8% and the wide steak with 3.3%). On the other hand, common minced fell by 1.8%); buttock cover 0.3% and breastplate 0.2%.
