JAKARTA – President Joko Widodo on Monday appointed a loyalist, Mr Budi Arie Setiadi, as Indonesia’s new Minister of Communications and Info in a cupboard reshuffle forward of the 2024 basic election.
Mr. Budi, previously Deputy Minister within the Villages, Deprived Areas and the Ministry of Transmigration, heads Projo, a voluntary group that has been supporting Mr. Widodo since 2014. He replaces former communications secretary Johnny G. Plate, who’s on trial for corruption.
The cupboard reshuffle contains the appointment of a number of deputy ministers and is broadly seen as a transfer by the president to put in his supporters in authorities forward of the February basic election. President Jokowi, as he’s popularly recognized, is just not eligible for re-election as his two-term mandate expires subsequent 12 months.
Mr Widodo has rising disagreements with get together elites from his ruling Indonesian Democratic Battle Celebration (PDI-P) as elections method.
