A man was shot dead late Wednesday night after a confrontation with police officers in Kansas City, Kansas — the second fatal police shooting in the city this year.

The shooting occurred around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday near a bridge over the Kansas River, the Kansas City Star reported. An officer pulled over a vehicle for a traffic violation, said Donna Drake of the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department, who is handling the investigation as part of an agreement between the two agencies.

Drake said a “showdown ensued” that ended when the officer shot the driver. Further details about the confrontation were not immediately released. The police officer was treated for minor injuries.
