Three nurses were beaten after a clash between the Libre collectives and the nursing professionals at the El Progreso hospital.
A group led by José Luis Fuentes, alias “Mango Chato” and called the peasant group “Lands for Everything”, has taken over the facilities of the Progreso hospital for several weeks.
José Luis Fuentes is the brother of the deputy for the department of Yoro, Bartolo Fuentes, who in turn is a member of the Libertad y Refundación party.
The group demands the dismissal of the director Edgar Murcia. According to the complaint, Alma Urbina, president of the hospital nurses, the takeover began quietly almost a month ago, but six days ago the peasants closed the gates and practically kidnapped the staff inside the center.
Faced with this situation, the staff began to argue with the peasants, who said they would not release the gates until Murcia resigned from his post.
“We just want to work, we feel alone, vulnerable, they have attacked three colleagues, the police even took machetes from them,” the nurse mentioned to Hoy Mismo.
“I know that this is political, it is that it has no other name, it is political, dirty politics. We are neither in favor nor against, we just want them to let us work”, asked Alma Urbina.
The nurse assures that they have been working under pressure and fear, after the peasants themselves threatened to bring more peasants to continue the protest.
“How is it that a farmer is invading a place, a farmer who is dedicated to tilling the land, how is that possible,” he said.
The takeover ended in a pitched fight, where several people were injured.
National Police agents arrived at the scene and managed to control the situation with tear gas and the gates of the care center were opened.
However, the seizures of the peasants were recorded in different sectors of the northern part of the country.
They blame Bartolo. The hospital director assures that the peasants, who are part of the Libre collectives, are sent by Bartolo Fuentes, who wants to appoint a new director to put an end to the party.
“It makes me sad that these types of people (the deputy Bartolo Fuentes) reach Congress. I was proposed by the PSH and not by the National Party. Fuentes does not know anything, ”he told HRN Murcia.
“We have been taking over for 33 days by a group that calls itself landless peasants. We are in the middle of a political problem, ”he launched.
