AP SOURCES CONFIRM ANNOUNCEMENT

Two people familiar with the case who were not authorized to discuss it publicly said Trump’s team had been informed he had been charged on seven counts and prosecutors had contacted lawyers to notify them of the indictment shortly before Trump himself announced it on his Truth Social platform.

“This is indeed a DARK DAY for the United States of America,” Trump wrote. “We are a country in serious and rapid decline, but together we will make America great again!”

Within 20 minutes of his announcement, Trump, who said he was due to appear in court in Miami on Tuesday afternoon, had begun raising money for his 2024 presidential campaign.

Prosecutors have said that after leaving the White House, Trump brought about 300 classified documents to Mar-a-Lago, including some 100 seized by the FBI last August during a search that revealed the seriousness of the investigation of the Ministry of Justice underlined.
