Among the nine injured is 26-year-old police officer Nickolas Wilt, who police say was shot in the head as he ran toward the gunfire. He underwent brain surgery and is in critical but stable condition, police said.
Wilt just graduated from the police academy on March 31.

“This was a malicious act of targeted violence,” the mayor said.
The mayor said he also survived a workplace shooting, telling survivors, “Whether you’re physically injured or not, I know you’re hurting too.”

“Today I am hurt and in pain, and I know there are so many people out there as well,” said Beshear. “Today we lost four children of God, one who is one of my best friends. Tommy Elliott helped me build my career as a lawyer, helped me run for governor, gave me advice to be a good father… . He was an incredible friend.”
The governor said of all four victims, “These are irreplaceable, wonderful individuals.”
