A man in the US has been arrested by police after he shot himself in the leg ‘in self-defence’ while dreaming he was being robbed, according to his report.
Mark M. Dicara, 62, was found in his Illinois home last month with a gunshot wound to the leg.
He told investigators that he had a nightmare of someone robbing him, which made him grab his .357 Magnum Revolver pistol “while he was still asleep.”
“But when he opened fire he shot himself, and apparently that’s when he woke up completely,” the Lake County sheriff commented on the incident.
Officials confirmed that no robbery had actually taken place, while the bullet had entered and exited his leg, fortunately without much damage.
Dicara was arrested for possession of a firearm with an expired gun permit, and it was unclear why he was disqualified from carrying a gun.
He was also charged with negligent discharge of a firearm.
The man was later released on bail with a court date set for June 29.
