A Michigan man is incarcerated after allegedly murdering his half-sister in the parking lot of a family business on Friday.

The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office said Zachary Holston III left the family business in Sterling Heights, Michigan, when his half-sister, Rita Evans, approached him and an argument ensued. Evans’ husband and daughter were also present at the time.

When Holston attempted to get into his car, the three family members approached the passenger door and a “physical altercation” occurred over paperwork in the vehicle, prosecutors said.

Assistant Macomb County prosecutor Steve Fox responded by saying the incident was caught on a nearby security camera, and said Evans only grabbed her gun in self-defense.

“We considered his claims of self-defense when we approved these charges,” Fox said. “The defendant turned it from verbal to something much worse. And that included shoving a young woman who was trying to get between Rita (Evans) and the defendant, drawing his gun when Rita had no gun in her hand at all. in her bag and aimed the gun like Rita while grabbing her own gun in self-defense.

Magistrate James VerPloeg set a bond of only $500,000 in cash.
