The Directorate of Children, Adolescents and Family (Dinaf), revealed that 5,145 minors have been returned to the country so far this year.

The data corresponds to January 1 to August 31, a period in which 3,041 boys and 2,280 girls returned after embarking on the migratory route irregularly.

Authorities of the institution detailed that of the total number of repatriated infants, 3,817 traveled in the company of their parents or an adult in charge, while 1,504 did so alone.

According to the origin of return, a total of 3,373 minors arrived from the United States, 1,136 from Mexico, 127 from Guatemala and nine from Belize.

The Dinaf He reiterated the call to parents not to risk their children on the migratory route, due to the dangers that exist, such as kidnapping or trafficking of minors.

Rolando Sierradirector of the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences (Flacso), considered that child migration is closely related to family reunification and the lack of education and employment.

Sierra mentions that child migration “is a situation that has to do with the attention and conditions given to children in the country by the government.”

To this we must add the insecurity and wave of violence that affects children and adolescents in Honduras.
