About 843,130 people have been internally displaced since the start of the conflict in Sudan, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) said on Wednesday.

In a statement, IOM warned that 1.8 million more people are expected to be internally displaced if the war continues.

He noted that before the conflict, there were 1.1 million refugees and 3.8 million internally displaced people in the country.

He said while around 259,000 people have already fled from Sudan to nearby countries, more than a million refugees and migrants affected by the turmoil could move to neighboring countries if the conflict continues.

According to the organization, it is currently estimated that more than 25.7 million people, both inside and outside Sudan, will need humanitarian assistance.

IOM also created a response plan and called for $209 million to provide critical humanitarian assistance to those affected by the crisis.

It was stated that the appeal includes the urgent need of $105 million for Sudan and $104 million for intervention in Egypt, Libya, Chad, Central African Republic, South Sudan and Ethiopia.

“The current humanitarian situation in Sudan is the worst the country has ever seen,” IOM Director-General Antonio Vitorino said in a statement.

“Millions of people urgently need basic assistance such as water, food and shelter. If we don’t act NOW, the Sudanese people will face an inevitable humanitarian catastrophe,” Vitorino said. said.

“We call on the international community to urgently support relief efforts and mobilize financial resources to meet growing needs.”
