MTN Group, one of the largest leading telecom operators in Nigeria, said they added 1.1 million new subscribers in the first quarter, increasing their user base to 76.7 million Nigerians.
This 1.1 million increase represents a 1.4% growth in its customers compared to the previous quarter. MTN Nigeria will announce its first quarter results on Thursday.
According to the News24 report, improving communications infrastructure added 170 additional 5G sites in the oil-producing country, bringing data coverage to 4% of its population of more than 200 million people.
“During the quarter, we focused on improving the capacity and coverage of our 4G and 5G networks, which supported rising data traffic,” said Karl Toriola, CEO of MTN Nigeria, in the release of the results. This had a positive and noticeable effect on data usage, with total data traffic increasing by 50.3% in the quarter.
In recent years, the company has focused on significant investments in network infrastructure and technology. Their investment in digital services has also played a major role in the growth.
MTN Nigeria has launched a series of digital products and services that have been well received by customers.
