The suspect who shot and wounded a New York State police officer during a routine traffic stop in Duanesburg has reportedly committed suicide, police say.
Trooper Richard Albert was shot in the upper arm after he stopped an SUV for speeding around 11 a.m. Friday morning. The officer was taken to hospital and has since been released.
Schenectady resident Nelson Troche, 32, is the suspected shooter. Troche was in the passenger seat, while an unknown woman was in the driver’s seat.
“The driver rolled down the window and the passenger reached out the driver’s side window and opened fire on Trooper Albert, hitting him in the upper left arm,” the New York State Police said in a statement.

Police say Troche ran into a wooded area after shooting the officer. Albert returned fire, despite his arm wound.
About 90 minutes later, Troche was found dead with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
“Troopers immediately rendered medical assistance until EMS arrived and transported him by medical flight to Albany Medical Center, where he has since been pronounced deceased,” the press release said.
