Former GOP Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich suggested that on Wednesday Donald Trump communicates better than Ron DeSantis — but it didn’t come across as complimentary to many. (Watch the video below.)
“One of the great benefits of Trump is that he talks at a level where third, fourth and fifth graders can say, ‘Oh yeah, I get that. I understand.’” Gingrich told host Laura Ingraham on her Fox news show.
The comment drew derision from online critics. “The fact that (Trump) is speaking to the kids says everything you need to know about the level of education the right is targeting,” one person on Twitter wrote. “I don’t see what that’s good for someone who runs a country. SMH,” another noted.
Gingrich assessed the strengths of the two leading Republican candidates for president after DeSantis officially entered the race on Wednesday. He praised the Florida governor’s intelligence, but questioned his communication skills after Ingraham played a clip in which DeSantis made a complicated comparison between financial institutions and elections.
Gingrich, a Fox News contributor, recommended that the governor of Florida reduce the message to a slogan.
