Singletary allegedly opened fire in Gastonia at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday evening, wounding James White, who is still in serious condition, Ashley Hilderbrand, who suffered an abrasion, and the child. Another person was shot at, but not hit, police said.

Relatives told Queen City News that the violent incident stemmed from a basketball rolling into Singletary’s yard while a group of children were playing a game.

“He came out with a gun, he started shooting,” the injured child, identified by relatives as Kinsley White, told the news outlet. “I hope my father is well.”

Singletary is expected to appear in a Florida court on Friday.
