Olimpia has taken the advantage in the score 0-1 against Olancho FC in the match between the first and second of the Clausura 2023 Tournament of the Honduran National League.
El León struck in a counter in which they caught the Colts off guard. Good qualification from Jorge Benguché for Kevin López, who went off on his own, assisted Jerry Bengtson and the Merengue captain surprised Harold Fonseca with a shot from outside the area that ended up in the back of his goal, in the 19th minute.
The Pampas team got on top of the Merengue goal and was very close to equalizing with a shot from the Argentine Agustín Auzmendi to the post, after a pass from Mario Martínez inside the area, at 40′.
In minute 52′, Carlos ‘Mango’ Sánchez was sent off after seeing the second yellow card for a hard challenge against Santiago Molina, leaving Olimpia with 10 men on the pitch.
Pedro Troglio quickly moved his bench giving entry to the Brazilian Gabriel Araújo and Germán ‘Patón’ Mejía, sacrificing Bengtson and Carlos Pineda also left, who had been booked.
Despite this numerical disadvantage, Olimpia almost got the second goal after a cross from José Mario Pinto that Kevin López headed in, but Harold Fonseca came back in spectacular fashion to clear the ball with one hand, on 56′.
It is enough for Albo not to lose to officially be the winner of the rounds of the contest, but with a defeat he opens the door to the leadership for the pamperos.
Three games have been played between Olancho FC and Olimpia: the pampas won one, the merengues one and there has been a draw. This duel would break parity.
