OSLO, Norway, April 11, 2023 -/African Media Agency(AMA)/- Opera – the company behind the family of popular mobile browsers with over 100 million monthly active users across Africa – announces an exciting new browser mode for football fans. The reboot offers an in-depth football experience built into the data saver Opera Mini browserallowing fans to follow action from around the world without having to download an additional application.
During the 2022 World Cup, Opera introduced Live Scores in the Opera Mini Browser, installing a scoreboard directly on the Opera Mini homepage, so fans didn’t have to go to different sites to catch up on the action – and therefore extra spend data. Live Scores is now getting a massive upgrade. Live Scores 2.0 is no longer just a scoreboard, but offers a range of features that put the football world at your fingertips, right from within Opera Mini.
For starters, users can customize their soccer experience by following their favorite teams and leagues. Over 8,000 teams from around the world will be available, including of course the global favorites from the Premier League, Champions League and beyond. Users can then follow any game they like from a new Match List page. With an overview of kick-off times and live scores, users can follow multiple matches in different leagues at the same time.
And if fans want to know more about what’s happening in a particular match, they can now click to get a detailed view of all the action. Users can browse the lineups, read running commentary and view match stats to know who has scored, assisted, booked, substituted – all the most urgent information available right in the Opera Mini Browser. Users can even join thousands of other fans in an ongoing poll that predicts the outcome of the match.
A final feature of the rebooted Live Scores is Live Match Alerts, in which users can receive notifications for all matches involving their favorite teams. Also available for all matches that users just want to follow (e.g. an edition of El Clásico), the alerts keep fans up to date on kick-off times, goals, red cards, penalties and the full result.
Opera has always been sensitive to what users want: what they like and what they enjoy. The company has long shared a passion for football with its users and has launched football-focused products such as the Apex Football app and website, which now has more than 12 million monthly users.
In addition, Opera kicked off the recent World Cup with “Shake and Win,” the company’s popular competition that gave fans the chance to win prizes including airtime, money and brand new phones. Opera users in Africa responded enthusiastically, with more than 13 million participants from across the continent shaking their phones more than 1,000,000 times a day. In total, the winners collected more than 200,000 awards as Opera Mini shot to No. 1 on the Google Play Store in both Nigeria and Kenya.
To experience a one-stop soccer experience, download Opera mini free from the Google Play Store.
