Pakistani Shehroz Kashif climbed the 8,167-metre (26,795-foot) Dhaulagiri mountain in Nepal on Wednesday, becoming the world’s youngest mountaineer to summit 12 peaks above 8,000 meters.

Kashif reached the summit of Dhaulagiri, the seventh highest mountain in the world, early Wednesday morning, Pakistan’s official mountaineering association, Pakistan Alpine Club, said in a statement.

Kashif, 21, made history when he summited the world’s second highest mountain, K2, in July 2021 to become the world’s youngest mountaineer.

He also became the youngest Pakistani to summit the world’s highest mountain, Mount Everest, in May 2021.

Kashif, from Lahore city in northeastern Pakistan, is only the sixth Pakistani to climb Mount Everest. It plans to summit all 14 peaks above 8,000 meters.

Female mountaineer writes history

Kashif’s rare achievement comes a day after Pakistani mountaineer Nadia Kiani became the first Pakistani female mountaineer to climb the 8,516-metre (27,940 ft) Lhotse Mountain in Nepal, the fourth highest mountain in the world.

Naila Kiani added another feather to her hat after conquering Mount Everest, the world’s highest peak, on May 14, with her British-Pakistani teammate Nadia Azad.

With this feat, Kiani became the country’s fastest woman to climb six peaks higher than 8,000 meters, according to the Pakistan Alpine Club.

Naila Kiani is the seventh and second Pakistani woman to summit Mount Everest.

Previously, Samina Baig was the only female climber to achieve this feat in 2013.

Kiani had climbed K2, Geeshabroom-1 and Geeshabroom-II before their most recent success. He is a Pakistani banker living in Dubai, also an amateur boxer and mother of two daughters.

Also, Naila Kiani’s ascent of Mount Everest this season was the first international ascent by a mountaineer.

Pakistan’s government announced Wednesday that it would honor his “outstanding” achievements and would award him one of the country’s most important civilian medals, Pakistani state television Sitara-e-Imtiaz reported.
