Paratus Group will build Angola’s first tier-4 “by design” data center in Luanda, Angola.

ICT infrastructure specialist said this new data center is in addition to the two data centers the pan-African company owns and operates in Angola. This will be the fifth data center to be operated by the group in Southern Africa.

Rolf Mendelsohn, the company’s technical director, said the new construction in Angola is the group’s most ambitious project to date.

The new Paratus data center will be built on a 30,000 square meter plot of land, built with a capacity for more than 2,000 cabinets, and will have a total IT power capacity of more than 10 MW.

The company said this is a natural evolution for them after recently building other data centers in Namibia and Zambia. “It will be the largest data center in Angola and will not only complement our existing offering, but will also strengthen our network in Angola.”

The Paratus Group currently has four tier-3 “by design” carrier-neutral (not aligned with a telecom operator) data centers in Southern Africa. With numerous opportunities arising from Equiano’s submarine cable and the rapid growth of the digital economy, the company has plans to target “hyperscalers” (companies such as Amazon Web Services, Microsoft or Google), other cloud and infrastructure providers , as well as multinational companies to take up space in its facilities.
