Pasadena police are investigating the death of a man on Angeles Crest Highway

Pasadena police said Saturday it was investigating an attempted robbery that killed a man on Angeles Crest Highway.

The fatal shooting was reported at 3:21 a.m. Saturday when California Highway Patrol officers encountered a car crash at 28:36 mile marker on Angeles Crest Highway, according to a statement from the Pasadena Police Department. When officers approached the vehicle, they found a man unconscious. There was also a female passenger in the vehicle.

When officers began performing life-saving measures on the male driver, they noticed he had been shot multiple times; he was later pronounced dead at the scene. The woman was not injured.

The stretch of highway is in Pasadena and city police detectives were called to the scene, the statement said. Investigators determined the motive for the shooting was robbery.

Police identified the victim as 32-year-old Jessie Munoz, a resident of Los Angeles. Police are not releasing any further details about the fatal shooting.
