A Pennsylvania State Police trooper was shot dead Saturday in Juniata County, while another trooper was seriously injured by gunfire with the same suspect.

The Pennsylvania State Police told Fox News Digital that a suspect “enlisted” a trooper and shot the officer around 12:45 a.m. in Mifflintown Borough.

The suspect fled and authorities later located him near Swamp Road and Baumgardner Drive in Juniata County.

Another gunfire resulted in the deaths of both the suspect and a state agent.

“Troopers exchanged gunfire with him. In this exchange, the gunman and a trooper were both shot and killed,” Pennsylvania State Police said in a statement.

The incident is under control, but police are asking local residents to avoid the area as the scene is still active. There is reportedly no danger to the public.

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro visited the hospital where the injured trooper was taken, police say.

Police will release the name of the suspect and the troopers involved later.
