ANNAPOLIS, Maryland — Three people were killed and three injured in a shooting at a home in Maryland’s capital on Sunday evening, police said.
Annapolis Police Chief Edward Jackson told reporters at a press briefing that the shooting stemmed from what he described as an “interpersonal dispute” and that there was no further threat to the public.
“It is a very active and fluid investigation. We’re still trying to determine everything that happened. We are still putting it together. We still have a lot of work to do,” Jackson said.
He declined to elaborate on the relationship between the people involved, but said the ages of the dead ranged from between 20 and 50. He said authorities had not established a clear motive for the shooting.
“It wasn’t random,” Jackson said, noting that the victims died “outside” the house.
South of the city center and near the waterfront, numerous police cars were seen in the residential area where shots were fired. Jackson said officers responded to the shooting around 8 p.m
The police issued a press release saying that one of the injured was airlifted to a trauma center. A suspect has been arrested, according to police. The chief later described the person as a “person of interest” and that no charges had been filed.
The chief said authorities recovered a weapon.
